Adgil PhotoThe DIRECTOR, manufactured by Adgil Design Inc., is a programmable, microprocessor controlled system designed to control audio monitoring in multi-channel environments. It can handle one main monitoring system with up to eight output channels (2. 4, 6 or 8) and two auxiliary stereo systems. Functions include MUTE, DIM, MONO, and SOLO from an external console, individual CUT on speakers, preset monitoring levels, variable levels and more.

The DIRECTOR can be used to monitor several sources simultaneously, so it can be used as a line level, fixed 1:1 mixer for stems or sub-mixes. It provides an insertion point after the source select/mix and before the level control cell for encoding/decoding matrixes, such as DOLBY(r) SEU4-SDU4

The DIRECTOR consists of two distinct components:

 The Chassis:

The chassis is built around a motherboard that provides all interconnections between the various plug-in cards. Audio terminations are made via DB25 type connectors that follow the TASCAM(r) pin-out protocol.

Plug-in Modules:

9808: Matrix Input Card. Eight (8) balanced matrix inputs. Each input can be assigned to ONE (1) of the busses. (L, R, C, SL, SR, SUB, ML, MR)

9803: Buss Amp/Insert Send Module. Contains up to 8 Buss Amps and Insert Send amplifiers, depending on the number or channels required in the system.

9804: Insert Return/Mono Module. Contains up to 8 Insert Return amps, the Bypass switching for Pre or Post Insert listening, and the Mono function.

9805: Output Module. Handles all switching, routing and level control for the speakers. Level control is achieved with DCA.s, for maximum clarity and sound quality. All outputs are equipped with relay protection against turn on/off transients. This module handles the first 4 speakers of the main system and the 2 stereo systems. If 6 or 8 speakers are required, a second 9805 card is used.

9806: Communication Module. Provides power to and communication with the remote control and other interfaces. GPI's are provided for the unit to communicate with the rest of the studio (switching SDU4 in surround or stereo automatically when selecting system A, B, or C, Red-Light, Talkback, etc...).

9814: Fixed Downmix / Solo Input Card. Handles an LCRS down mix from 7.1 or 5.1, a stereo down mix from 7.1 or 5.1 and a stereo solo input.

The Remote Control

The variable level control is achieved using an endless shaft encoder, providing 0.375 dB per step attenuation. There are 2 programmable preset levels for specific formats, such as 85 dB SPL (film) and 82 dB SPL (TV).
